By the benevolent grace of Lord Jagadeeswara, the innumerable sacrifices of our ancestors, and the strong resolve of today’s India, the sacred pilgrimage of Ayodhya was revitalized in January 2024, and finally became home to the Chinmaya Mission’s first-ever 9-day Ram Katha Camp, held at the Janmabhoomi of Bhagavan Shri Ram Lalla from 2nd Dec till 12th Dec, 2024.

With the blessings of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda, Mukhya Swami Swaroopananda, and the entire Guru Parampara, Chinmaya Mission South Africa is humbled and fortunate to have provided this scintillating spiritual experience to 250+ attendees from dozens of cities across India, USA, UAE, UK, South Africa, Australia, and Singapore, as well as our 1000s of online listeners from across the globe.

Unravelling the nectarine words of Goswami Tulsidas at this grand camp was Pujya Swami Abhedananda (In-charge, Chinmaya Mission South Africa), who brought the Ramcharitmanas to life in the hearts of listeners, completing the text over the 9-day-long anushthāna. Through his evocative explanations, innovative examples, references across the many Ramayanas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and more, Swami Abhedananda sparked the flame of seekerhood in all devotees, bringing them smiles, tears, laughs, and moments of deep devotion, in remembrance of the Divine.

The camp was graced by 5 Brahmacharins of the Mission who came from centres across North India. Satsangs were also attended by various sannyasis and priests of Ayodhya! Sumptuous meals were served thrice a day as Prasad for all campers. Journalists from various spiritual channels in Ayodhya and beyond visited Swamiji, seeking thought-provoking answers to pertinent questions. Insightful pointers from the sessions and highlights of celebrations were covered everyday in Dainik Bhaskar’s Uttar Pradesh newspapers.

The Janma Utsav of Lord Rama was celebrated with grand festivity and an intense feeling of gratitude for being able to celebrate Shri Rama’s birth at His very birthplace, after centuries! The Sita Ram Vivah during the Katha was celestially blessed as it fell on 6th Dec, which was the auspicious tithi of Vivāha-pañchami, the day when Mother Sita and Shri Rama were married in Janakpuri. The concluding day of the camp and celebration of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya also coincided with the sacred occasions of Gita Jayanti and Tapovan Jayanti. Campers rejoiced to welcome Lord Rama upon the throne of their hearts, marking an unforgettable Deepavali celebration in Ayodhya!

Keep Calm, Invoke Ram

The very word ‘Ram’ (राम) purifies the mind and fills the heart with infinite glories of the Lord. Bhagwan Ram took avatar out of His immense compassion for His devotees to show us how to live the life as per our dharma. Ram is the very manifestation of dharma.

The compassionate Lord, on the occasion of Ram Navami comes to tell all of us that “You are not alone. I have come for you, to love you, to protect you, to take-care-of you.”

Goswami Tulisdasji says that Rama Naam is like a celestial tree (wish fulfilling tree). Anybody who takes Lord’s name, this tree fulfills all their desires.

On the auspicious occassion of Rama Navami, let us Invoke Him and pray for the Global Well-being.

Brahmachari Vandan Chaitanya is currently posted at Chinmaya Mission Durban, South Africa. He has completed a Master’s Degree in Technology in Homoeopathy from the Durban University of Technology. Vandan had a desire to pursue a monastic life for many years and feels extremely blessed to be initiated as a brahmachari of the Chinmaya Mission monastic order as well have the opportunity to study our sacred scriptures under the tutelage of Pujya Swami Abhedanandaji.

Vandan visited the Chinmaya Ashram in Durban on a few occasions prior to the commencement of the 2 year residential Vedanta Course and is grateful to a devotee for his role in Vandan doing the Vedanta Course.

Vandan will always be indebted to Pujya Swami Abhedanandaji and the Chinmaya Mission for everything that he has received, and desires that he may one day become a worthy instrument to serve God and Guru in whatever manner they will.

Brahmacharini Gauri Chaitanya is currently posted at Chinmaya Mission Durban, South Africa. She has a Diploma in Business Administration.

Her fascination towards the Chinmaya Mission drew her to the ashram in Durban, where she was involved as a sevika and attended daily classes and camps. In 2015, she joined the first ever two year residential Vedanta Course at Chinmaya Mission of South Africa, Durban, under the guidance of Pujya Swami Abhedanandaji.

On the auspicious occasion on Maha Shivaratri, 24 February 2017, she was conferred brahmacharya deeksha under the name Brni. Gauri Chaitanya. She is currently serving at the Durban Ashram and its functioning.

Brahmacharini Kaushiki Chaitanya is currently posted at Chinmaya Mission of South Africa, Durban. She came from an environmental science background, where she involved in grassland studies, environmental educational programmes and vegetation surveys etc.

Her association with the Chinmaya Mission of South Africa since August 2010 sparked her inner seeker and this saw co-ordinating Balvihar classes and camps, attending Vedanta and daily satsangs. This led her to staying full time at the Ashram. In 2015, she joined the first ever two year residential Vedanta Course at Chinmaya Mission of South Africa, Durban, under the guidance of Pujya Swami Abhedanandaji.

On the auspicious occasion on Maha Shivaratri, 24 February 2017, she was conferred brahmacharya deeksha under the name Brni. Kaushiki Chaitanya. She is currently in charge of Balvihar weekly classes and bi-monthly camps. Her passion for Balvihar has spread to her taking four classes a week at local Primary Schools in the Chatsworth Area. She also assist in monthly Vishnu Sahasranaam Archana and Gayatri Havan.
